On Wednesday 6th May I was fortunate to join a group of likeminded folks from the channel for a day in London hosted by Nutanix featuring guest speakers from Omnissa and Parallels. Not quite Palm Springs for NerdioCon but it was still sunny…just.
A hats off and thank you to Stu Bland and Ludmilla Dias from Nutanix as our Channel SE’s who spend their days helping us all be better for our customers. Both of them deserve medals for putting up with us.
They also managed to get “traditional so-called competitors” (friends you’ve not met yet) in the reseller, distributor, and vendor spaces all in the same room with a common goal of talking about how to give customers the power of ‘Choice‘ – the choice to pick a blue one, or a red one, or a purple one, and know that you can change your mind later and it’s OK because everything is a building block and staying ahead of the next acquisition or other disaster in the ecosystem is the aim of the game today.
It was thoroughly refreshing to see these friends from other sectors talking openly and honestly about the same challenges we’re all facing and to see 3 independent vendors in a room all talking about how sometimes they are the right fit, sometimes not, and that ultimately it’s all about having ‘Choice‘ and looking at the requirements for a particular scenario before talking about the tech that can meet the need.
I’ll be digging into each session in much more detail, but suffice to say that whilst I’ve been deploying Horizon and Parallels RAS for years it was a school day learning about some new things and some bits I didn’t even know existed. (this in turn lets me be better for the next customer I talk to!)
